Director of Sports Performance
Frank Colabella, Director of Sports Performance at Performance Spine and Sports Medicine, is a graduate at Northern Arizona University, Montclair State University, and Suffolk Community College where he received degrees in exercise physiology, athletic training, and sports administration. He is also a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), a certified member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and president of Athletic Precision.
Frank has worked on the high school, college, professional, and Olympic level in numerous capacities for over 20 years. He was the head athletic trainer at Gulf Coast Community College and four local high schools in Panama City, Florida. Additionally, he served as head athletic trainer for the Huntsville Fire (professional indoor soccer team of the EISL), assistant at Florida State University, and assistant rehab specialist for the New Jersey Devils. Frank was also one of the athletic trainers and conditioning coaches preparing the athletes for the 1996 Para Olympic Games. He also served as assistant medical coordinator for the Gulf Coast triathlon (qualifier for the Ironman), AAU Baseball Junior National World Series, Disney marathons, sunshine state games, Nike High school combines and the US Army All-American High School football game. Frank has worked with the USA bobsled, Junior National luge, freestyle aerial ski team, Greco-Roman and freestyle Junior National wrestling team, and was the athletic trainer for the USA Handball team.
Frank specializes in sports performance and sports biomechanics and is Nike SPARQ certified. He has worked with many professional athletes including Ryan Howard, Jenni Finch, Zack Grienke, Shaquille O’Neal, Eugene Monroe, Kyle Wilson and many others. He is one of few golf fitness professionals who are both levels two and three certified by the Titleist Performance Institute in the fields of fitness, medical and biomechanics. Frank is a consultant for the Long Island University and University of Connecticut golf teams and a Clinical Instructor and site instructor for Seton Hall University’s Athletic Training program and Rutgers University Exercise Science program. He is also a contributing writer for Golf Fitness Magazine and Got Game sporting magazine. He currently resides on board of directors as a consultant for the First Tee program of New Jersey providing consulting on golf fitness and biomechanics.
Frank is a pioneer in the field of sports performance diagnostics. His current focus is Optogait, a new diagnostic technology that analyzes gait and running mechanics empirically. This technology is being used by teams such as AC Milan, FC Barcelona and numerous Olympics centers around the world. Frank is also an expert in 3D motion analysis. 3D analysis bridges sports diagnostics in motion with application on how an athlete is either weak or inflexible within their dynamics of sports motions. With this technology, a clinician can prevent or help strengthen an athlete’s motion with exercise, yoga and flexibility.
